Words have power to change a life or to destroy that life.
This is a truth that I have recently become aware of and I hope that
in the following pages of poetry, prayers and wisdom you will find
words that will inspire, and encourage you.
I remember a time when I was in a line at a market, and there was a
mother and her little five year old girl in front of me. The little
girl was smiling at everyone and you could tell that she had a wonderful,
bright spirit. The mother was obviously tired and feeling very harried
and when the clerk made a comment as to how beautiful the girl was
the mother (I'm sure without thinking) said "You want her? You
can have her!" It broke my heart to see the confusion and hurt
on the face of this beautiful little girl, for of course, she
took her mother's words literally and the mother did not even
have a clue that she had hurt her little girl so.
In the past couple of months I have realized that one word spoken
in anger or without thought, can wound a life, possibly beyond
repair. We need to speak with wisdom and love to the people
around us and to be aware of the effects of our words. I don't
mean to say that you should never be angry or harsh,
for there is a time and a place for these things, I mean
that we should consider our words, realize the power they
have and use them wisely.
